Mr Compaq

Everyone, meet my new lover.

Mr Compaq

Mr Compaq

The first laptop I ever own, I hope that doesn’t sound as if I just returned from living in a cave. Well, yes. Maybe I am among the late people to have an Intel Core 2 Duo while there’s even Quad now :P I wouldn’t have needed a new laptop either in the first place. My 6 (6???) year old Pentium 4 PC is still serving me well and personally I prefer desktop PC rather than notebook computers, I mean, you can’t just leave a laptop on like that when you go out or something like you can leave a desktop PC, and storing is a thing I don’t like about laptops. But I had to get a piece as I am moving again soon, and I don’t have heart to drag the big machine to Penang. I have moved the PC here and there when I was in UIA for 4 years and the apartment in KL as well, and I guess it’s the time for Mr Big PC to retire from moving around with me. So I hope Mr Big PC doesnt mind I am with Mr Compaq now, he’s easygoing and flexible and I can bring almost everywhere even in bed ;)

OK so I got this Compaq with a Windows Vista pre-installed on it, just like what I heard that they’re forcing people to use Vista nowadays. And first I was stunned that I was using Vista and thought I would try to like it, but after hours I realized that I would never like it and I decided I’d have it run on XP no matter what it takes, just I didnt expect it would take so much work. The machine doesn’t simply accept XP installation! It ended up with error blue screen everytime it loaded the XP CD. Darn HP and Microsoft. But they don’t know people are smarter than them :P After hours of googling and downloading, I found a way to install XP on new stubborn machines (tutorial here) and my life was saved again! But I still had a problem with drivers (you have to look around to download drivers coz on the Compaq website for this particular laptop they just provide drivers for Vista =_= and yes, no CD in the first place, agh) and after many hours all was done and perfect except the audio that didnt seem to work. Mr Compaq was now mute with XP! :( Again another phase of googling, and I found this tutorial to make it sound again. Haih. So much work la.. See? I better dump Mr Compaq and go back to Mr Big PC!

Hmm and now the lappy is behaving fine again, with sound, and XP, and I guess it wouldn’t get much better than this :)

I am happy!

Pembiayaan Untuk Pengajian Ijazah Lanjutan di Bawah Pakej Rangsangan Ekonomi Kedua

Or PPPI for short. It’s a good news for people under age of 35 who falls into either one of these groups:

1- Graduates who have not yet got a job.

2- People who have been fired from job.

because the Government has just said in the new budget that they will sponsor your fees should you choose to go for postgraduate studies, Masters or PhD. Terms and condition apply.

Go and check further at the MoHE website.

Hmmm. Though I am not sure which group I fall into, both don’t sound very precise to me, but if this is true that I don’t have to pay anything than it’s cool baby. Maybe it’s better than have to wait for one semester to get a scholarship, I don’t know. Anyhow. I have to wait for either USM or UKM to answer my application first then I can go make this sponsorship application.

USM?

UKM?

Someone who was my tutor and doing his Masters in UIA, advises me to go to anywhere but UIA. Hehe. I already know that point.

And someone who suddenly turned up as an old classmate, suggests me to go for UTM.

And someone else abroad, who was whining over UIA and I thought he would not come back to study or live in Malaysia again, now saying he may be doing masters in UTM also.

What the hell.

Aku sudah mempunyai scanner baru

Wuhu. HP 3-in-1 macam lama juga tetapi model baru.

Dan lebih murah! RM192. Hmm.. macam tak percaya.

Nampaknya aku terpaksa menghabiskan masaku untuk scan poskad.

Lalalalala..

Hello Mr President

I am among the unlikely people to write about Barrack Obama. But I just couldn’t help sharing this forum link with you while I’m here ROFLMAO. The thread title seriously translates to: “Hot news! Barrack Obama’s visit to Kuala Lumpur and the newspapers didn’t report about it!”

Yeah right. *still LOLing*

Malaysian winter

a.k.a. rainy season. The days you can hear and feel and smell the rain drops outside the window: sometimes heavy, sometimes light, sometimes unexistence – but it feels like raining still. The days the roadways are never dry. The best days of the year to spend under a thick, warm blanket. In a quiet, dark room where you don’t hear any sound at all. Maybe only the rain drops. The time of the year you feel the laziest, even too lazy to have a hot shower. Let alone to get up to work. Haih.

Tasik Heights Apartment: small room available

I hope the title will trap some potential people to read this so-called ads. Hehe.

OK, seriously. If you’re female and looking for a room in Tasik Heights apt, Bandar Tasik Selatan, there’s a unfurnished small (single) room available at RM180/month. Utility bill is sharing basis, which won’t be more than RM30/month per person. Cooking is allowed. Unlike other apartments/flats in that area, Tasik Heights has got more than enough car parks. And easy access to bus and LRT Bandar Tasik Selatan.

I don’t think I can publish my number here, but I am online most of time these days, so you can email me at ilyanim at gmail dot com for more info.

Thank you for your time :)

PJ Community Library My Second Home

So yesterday after work I made my first visit to PJ Community Library, which made me screaming in excitement to discover how heavenly this place is. Though I couldn’t literally scream since it’s a library. It isn’t actually very far from Bukit Jalil, I reached there within less than 30 minutes. But on the way back was a bit torture to be stuck in congested traffic during the time when everyone is heading home (next time I should stay longer until night).

I registered as a member. The joining fee is RM1 (!) and annual fee + library card for RM30 so I had to pay RM31 in total. It’s way cheaper than what I’m getting back actually. 3 floors of books, and it isn’t just books, but spacious make-yourself-at-home areas with comfy sofas and place to have a good rest (and maybe nap) in, with a good book, and how perfect is that idea? What more, it has MANY BOOKS I’ve been looking for! It’s like MPH store, only you can bring back the books home, for free! And less people, more quiet, with cooled air yet feels so warm, dimmed light in some areas, oh I just can’t describe in words of how wonderful the atmosphere. And even the surau and washrooms are so neat. I can say this library much much rocks than KL Lib and National Lib (though I haven’t been there much before and not a member), and forget UIA Lib or UM Lib, DBP Lib, also.. ugh.. the sad Kelantan State Lib back home. Those are incomparable to PJ Community Library!

With the membership you can borrow 2 books and 2 media stuff (DVD, VCD, CD) at one time and you can keep them for at most 2 weeks. Renewing is possible, also via online access or making a call in case you cannot make it to the library. And the media stuff, which all I can say I can never finish them for the rest of my life being the library member. And they even have anime videos!! (I am so happy I want to cry..) Then there’s a section with many computers you can use to surf the internet. And media viewing/listening rooms for groups and individual, you can play movies and music and stuff, which I guess just like the one in UIA Lib. Only better cuz there are not many people coming here, at least at this particular time.

And yet another thumbs-up for PJ Lib is the convenient website & online access. The OPAC is great and you can even browse the books title by categories, the media stuff included! What more could you ask for a library catalog?

I fell in love at first sight with this place. I got myself 2 books by Melissa Bank and Jessica Adams whom I’m sure can give me a little laugh over the weekend. And two movies Wild Hogs and another with Nicole Kidman. I’m going back this Thursday, or Friday. And weekend.

Two things to be excited about today!

Finally! After investigation on the confusing Google map which is still not showing KL-Putrajaya expressway which has been in operation since years.. (hey, Google updates the map every 10 years or what?), today I have found my way to this very cool place I have been meaning to go since I moved here, which I believe I’ll be visiting every weekend! I can’t wait no more I have to go there and see this evening after work! And the membership fee is RM31!

AND!! Though I can’t access the forum today, imajica, shamelessly (this is one of the clue words on 8tv contest and I can’t help giggling that I’m using it), wants to announce her best wishes for Postcrossing 3rd Anniversary :) 3 years! Can you believe it?? I don’t want to be reminded again by this fact, that in my room at home, there’s a huge box containing 1600 postcards I have received throughout 33 months I have become a Postcrosser. However thanks to my inactivity a few times for exams, internet unavailability, etc.. that number can somehow still be kept in control from increasing rapidly. Hehehe.

Petronas Maybankard Visa?

I’m getting myself a credit card. Mama doesn’t like the idea, coz she doesn’t trust my financial organizing skill and thinks I’ll end up with alot of debts thanks to using credit card. Ah, but I am 25 years old! I have to know about these stuff sooner or later. Though she’s happy to lend me her credit card but it. Is. Not. Enough.

I was studying all credit cards offered from Maybank and Citibank, even those two are offering loads of types of credit cards with this benefit and that benefit, trivial enough I don’t want to add up some more headache in making comparison by studying credit cards from other banks like CIMB, RHB, Hong Leong.. bleh bleh bleh. Citibank is surely crazy about credit cards, with these “joint venture” cards like Air-Asia-Citibank, Shell-Citibank, Celcom-Citibank and even Giant supermart-Citibank. Hahaha. I’m kind of interested in Shell card, given that I’m spending a few hundred bucks on Shell fuel every month so free 5% rebate sounds like a relief.. though I doubt if it’s worth more than I have to pay for annual fee.

And Maybank also has joint venture cards: SonyCard and Petronas Maybankard Visa. I wonder what other banks’ joint ventures are. Is there any credit card with Pos Malaysia and can give me free/discounted stamps and postage wordwide? Anyway yesterday I went to Maybank for enquiry and forms, as it’s conveniently located here in TPM, and Maybankard credit cards will make me eligible to purchase stuff with 0% interest installment plan (at least they claim so). I was thinking about regular platinum card but they suggest me to get this Petronas Maybankard Visa which is also offering “free petrol” using treat points. (By the way, CIMB gets a similar Petronas CIMB MasterCard, heh). But I’m not sure if I wanna switch from Shell to Petronas. And this credit card is free! Meaning: no annual fee. Hmm? Are you sure? So it’s like Visa Flex and Citibank Choice, but even better cuz there’s no condition like you have to use/swipe at least several times a month to avoid monthly fee like those two have. Therefore Petronas Maybankard Visa seems to sound like a pet who doesn’t need to be fed.

Nice pet. Come, come, adopt one! :P
