Mr Compaq

Everyone, meet my new lover.

Mr Compaq

Mr Compaq

The first laptop I ever own, I hope that doesn’t sound as if I just returned from living in a cave. Well, yes. Maybe I am among the late people to have an Intel Core 2 Duo while there’s even Quad now :P I wouldn’t have needed a new laptop either in the first place. My 6 (6???) year old Pentium 4 PC is still serving me well and personally I prefer desktop PC rather than notebook computers, I mean, you can’t just leave a laptop on like that when you go out or something like you can leave a desktop PC, and storing is a thing I don’t like about laptops. But I had to get a piece as I am moving again soon, and I don’t have heart to drag the big machine to Penang. I have moved the PC here and there when I was in UIA for 4 years and the apartment in KL as well, and I guess it’s the time for Mr Big PC to retire from moving around with me. So I hope Mr Big PC doesnt mind I am with Mr Compaq now, he’s easygoing and flexible and I can bring almost everywhere even in bed ;)

OK so I got this Compaq with a Windows Vista pre-installed on it, just like what I heard that they’re forcing people to use Vista nowadays. And first I was stunned that I was using Vista and thought I would try to like it, but after hours I realized that I would never like it and I decided I’d have it run on XP no matter what it takes, just I didnt expect it would take so much work. The machine doesn’t simply accept XP installation! It ended up with error blue screen everytime it loaded the XP CD. Darn HP and Microsoft. But they don’t know people are smarter than them :P After hours of googling and downloading, I found a way to install XP on new stubborn machines (tutorial here) and my life was saved again! But I still had a problem with drivers (you have to look around to download drivers coz on the Compaq website for this particular laptop they just provide drivers for Vista =_= and yes, no CD in the first place, agh) and after many hours all was done and perfect except the audio that didnt seem to work. Mr Compaq was now mute with XP! :( Again another phase of googling, and I found this tutorial to make it sound again. Haih. So much work la.. See? I better dump Mr Compaq and go back to Mr Big PC!

Hmm and now the lappy is behaving fine again, with sound, and XP, and I guess it wouldn’t get much better than this :)

I am happy!

Randomness some more

1- It’s quite convenient to number the paragraphs now it seems.

2- I have been so down for some sappy reason, which I must get over it soon hopefully I’ll find a way. I mean, it’s so stupid finding myself with tears whenever I go to bed.. I can’t stop my mind from wandering somewhere it shouldn’t.. during the minutes before I really fall asleep. And I would cry. And it hurts physically as wel.. in my chest. Sometimes it can go for hours and I can’t sleep. It sucks. Therefore I hate bedtime lately. I rather stay up for thousands hours on the computer and only go doze off when I am at the extent of maximum sleepiness. So no time for unnecessary thoughts before sleep anymore.

3- I have to buy a laptop before end of this month, I am already sure from which shop I’ll get it, and the price, the brand, the spec, but the only thing now those sets have been sold out -______- so I’m waiting for them to come out with yet a new model.

4- Diss the postcards blog, the more I have been trying to update lately, the less inspiration I seem to have. I still wanted to put 1000 more cards there, but now it would already be great if I manage 100 by end of this month. Though I can only promise 10 to be honest. Yikes.

5- I have to do the course registration on Monday. I have to admit I am so uncertain coz this is the first time I’m doing things like this alone.. I had some friends with me when we were entering UM before, also UIA PJ, also UIA main campus. But now I have to depend completely on my own. Hmm.

6- And I still am clueless about the acommodation a.k.a the place I am gonna live for at least one year..

7- I will not buy Midlife.. it’s so pointless coz I already have ALL songs from the album, despite I only bought 3 Blur albums before and the rest were downloaded :P Still, what’s with this A Beginner’s Guide to Blur album??

8- I love it when people write so inspiring messages in letters… which I myself I cannot come up with such. It instantly makes me feel 1000 times better, more positive, comfort and motivated again…… I feel so thankful to penpalship coz my friends far far away seem to understand me much better than people near me here. Ironic, but still. Oh yeah, I just got the most awaited letter the other day, hence this sentimental thoughts :)

9- OK I’m now trying to go sleep peacefully, baby.

Blur : Midlife

Random

1- I got the student USM-Windows Live email account.. I always hate hate student email coz they use complicated numbers (and underscores???) as username.. don’t know how long I will take to memorize it.

2- I have officially stopped sending official Postcrossing cards and tags. Will send a few left to some random people.

3- I went to Perhentian Island. Swimming and snorkeling and having a blast. Got underwater camera okay. Pictures later.

4- I cried over the Spice Girls touring video.

5- I am 100000% still not prepared for moving (and studying -__________- )

The Chronicles of Penang: The Location

Hmm I just realized this cheap WordPress can’t embed Google maps. So a print-screen is an alternative. Click on pic to go to actual map.

One thing that has been in mind since AGES and now becomes densed even more now that my focus is on the transportation to go to westcoast:

- The stupid government is toooooooo busy building elevated highways and light trains and mega skycrapers in KL only that never seem to realize that MILLIONS of people would need a railway from the east to Westcoast i.e. Penang, Perak, Selangor… and vice versa.

railway

You see? Since the existence of railway in Malaya more than 100 years ago.. it’s only been this way and never improved, you need to travel south first to go to KL by railway, hence long 13+ hours.. while they could have actually been much shorter should they spend some time thinking wisely and come up with a crossing railway from east to west.. I would say it may only take less than 10 hours to KL and only 5 hours to Penang.. or can be faster assuming they’ll improve the trains system itself rather than still being stuck at the era of Japanese colonization (no offense to Japan, this is a regular metaphor to actually say loooooooooooooong time ago and never get civilized). Sigh but some people are too blind to realize.. coz they only travel by private jets..

So….. forget the train now it’s more than ridiculous to travel to Penang by train if you have to go south first then come up north again. Driving would take 5 hours from Kota Bharu, as some say.. so it’s relatively closer than to KL obviously.
