Weekend update

1) I went to see my sis Ipah in UIA PJ (oh btw she’s been there since one week, and last weekend my family actually came over to send her here) and drove her to do checkup thing in Assunta Hospital. Then we went to Amcorp Mall for McDonald’s, and hey, there was this flea market inside Amcorp Mall that I have been meaning to come for long! People are selling clothes, antique stuff, accessories, home stuff, hardware, flowers, books, many many things actually. I got myself very cheap jacket and skirt from Japan. Too bad I couldnt stay long browsing the open markets as my sister came with her friend and I don’t want them to get bored waiting for me. By the way I now can go visit my sister every weekend in the hostel because I can use the coin-operated laundry there!

2) After a few weeks being poor, I finally got my second salary *wink, wink* I hope this time I’ll manage to use my money properly so that it’s enough for the rest of the month. And yesterday I somehow saw myself in the store spending my first hundred buck. For neccessity only, mind you.

3) And last night Ado and I watched The Incredible Hulk! :)

Birthday party some more

In IRIS they’re celebrating employees birthday every month. And today they had June birthday party, and everyone who was born in June were celebrated in one big party. Well, not too big but okay. There’s a big cake, at least. There’s a big room beside the cafetaria for this purpose. I was invited, too :)

And the food! I loved the curry wantan mee I wanted to have my second bowl but resisted. Gotta maintain my personality, dear. Anyway, how come they don’t have curry wantan as regular menu at the cafetaria? Also they got pulut kuning (heh!) with chicken rendang and salad and some strange kuih I dont know its name. And longan juice. Oh and the chocolate cake was yummy!

I came late so I missed the time the candle blowing and singing and taking pictures part, but nevermind. I hardly know many people in here anyway, and nobody in IE shared the same birthday month as me so I came in there as quite a stranger, though people from HR do recognize me and greet me :) and at least kak Ida came talking to me during the eating. She asked, “which birthday is this to you?”. And I answered, “25th”. And she goes again, “Still young. When are you planning to get married then?”.

There you go. Is that a common question to be asked to everyone who’s just turned 25? What is the answer? I don’t know the answer. So I said, “I don’t know lah”. And laughed politely. And later we talked about the food, she introduced the son of COO who was standing there with his dad.. and she asked if my work is going ok for past 2 month. I said OK leh..

And everyone was given a greeting card signed by Director of IRIS and a gift wrapped nicely (everyone knows it’s towel).

So that was my first birthday party in IRIS.

Unblocked?

Something really weird is happening in IRIS now. It seems like all those blocked sites & features have now been unblocked by MIS.. the Gmail chat, Flickr photos & pages, YouTube, music download sites, garage sale & auction sites like Mudah, Lelong, etc.., StatCounter, even Postcrossing and the forum. Hahaha. A sudden freedom of internet in the office like this is good or what. For someone who still has not yet got herself a broadband modem in the apartment, well maybe yes.

But is this a trap or what? :p

The birthday cards (final photos from my dearest camera)

I bought this BenQ DC2410 3.2 megapixel digital camera during my 2nd semester in UIA (early 2004) in PC Fair at PWTC. With Isuma, and she got herself one too (and later we also found out that Lenya also bought the same model! And Nora also got herself a BenQ digicam, but a slimmer model, which was introduced during the next PC fair.) That time the model we bought was RM490 on promotion price, brand new, which was quite affordable for us students, and as our very first digital camera, we were very very proud of them :)

As for my digicam, somehow it’s not officially mine, as Mama paid for it, so I had to share with my sisters.. until they actually have become much richer than me with their scholarship and all so got themselves a more sophisticated digicam and camera phone which I never afford to buy.

So the (now) old BenQ digicam has been all mine these couple of years though I have not been that proud anymore of using it. I have been dreaming for a new camera but I just have to wait until I have my own money. Which means until I get a job after I finish studies. But right now though I have a job I am still too poor to buy a new Sony Cybershot I have been spying on.

Anyways. Let me finish the story about the old digicam first. It’s been in very old condition lately, it used to die for a while sometime last year but got alive back on its own (which I still don’t understand why), but still could be used perfectly unless you take pictures at night. Until a few weeks ago when the display screen got broken. And I mean broken!!  :-(

It must have been the metal keys inside my handbag when I put the camera together with everything in it. The camera purse has been lost somewhere so that’s why it was exposed to such damage. Haih. My bad.

BUT!!! In that worst condition it still could be used hahaha. It got so much esteem to live! I am so proud of it! It has a display lens afterall so I still could use it like the manual cameras in the good old days. Only I couldn’t change the settings and mode anymore, and I couldnt see the pictures I just took, so I have to transfer the photos into PC first before really seeing the photos.

And just now I was trying to take pictures of my birthday cards. It was all blur and not pretty as I couldn’t change the unflash/closeup mode. But here they are:

From Indirama in Finland. With Moomins phone strap :)

From Ado

I didn't know such card was available in the store (well apart of cards for friends, for lovers, for mum, for dad, for teachers, etc). I mean, the message was so.... true. Is it custom made or what. But you cant read it here cuz it's blur :P

AND!!!!! After those photos, I have come to realize that the camera is now completely broken. It’s still alive, but when I press the button it’s not working anymore. Not. Working. Anymore.

Sob, sob.. :~(

I hereby declare that my beloved camera has now officially a history. Thank you so much for having been serving for me for past 4 years. I have captured alot of memories with you. I don’t care if you’re old fashioned now after 4 years but honestly I am glad that I have owned you as part of my life. Please rest in peace, my dear camera.

The birthday: full story

Hi WordPress. I thought in this post I would show off my picture with Ana & Paulo :-) But I can’t. Because I didn’t meet them the other day.

I am too lazy to recall the day. I knew I was going to see them, so I planned to sleep early and get enough rest on Thursday night so I would have enough energy for the whole 24 hours of Friday. And I hadn’t thought that Ado would remember about our earlier plan to celebrate my birthday together. But he did, so on Thursday afternoon he was checking with me if we were gonna meet on Friday. And he already had my birthday card and said he made himself free just for the birthday meeting. I told him I was going to meet friends at night, so I could see him during lunch hour. He didn’t want lunch hour, and I wasn’t thinking so much, so I suggested Thursday night. There goes my time I was supposed to sleep early.

I couldn’t blame the meeting with him though. It was the birthday celebration I was looking forward to. I would say it should be the last time I spent my birthday with him. Yet it was actually also the first time. I was at home for long vacation on last year’s 20th June, and in June 2006 we were “disconnected”.

I wanted to write in details what my birthday celebration was like. The food, the cake, the card, the mood, the talk. But I don’t want to. Sweet memories can be a torture in future, especially when you’re not supposed to gain more sweet memories with a certain someone anymore. I didn’t even take any pictures. Though it was a happy day to remember, I have to tell myself not to think about that day so much.

So let’s move on to Friday story. Everything was ok though I was sleepy at office. I told my new colleagues that it was my birthday, and they greeted me in surprise. After work, I reached home around 6.20pm and was confused if I was still having that energy and mood to go to KL Sentral. Ana hasn’t called, I didn’t know if they have arrived here or were still stuck somewhere. I decided not to go, as I don’t want to ruin a meeting mood wih my sleepy and tired face. I sent Ana an sms telling about that. But the sms didn’t reach her.

Minutes later I got sms from Ana but other number telling that they had just arrived and asking if I was still around. I checked back the last sms I sent her wasn’t yet delivered. I replied her sms again telling that I would come. But again the message was pending from being sent. I knew it was going to be a disaster. I don’t want to be someone who doesnt turn up in a meeting without telling first. So I decided to go there though it was a bit late. Yes in a sudden I forgot that I was tired and sleepy.

I reached KL Sentral at 7.45pm and I checked McDonalds though I didnt expect they would wait for me anymore. I checked every restaurant in KL Sentral and was going round in same places a few times. I was trying to call them and sent multiple sms but why on earth communication fails at really really REALLY critical times???? My messages kept pending, I dunno why, coz I did send Ana a message 2 days earlier and IT WAS DELIVERED after a few minutes despite of foreign number in foreign country whatsoever. I didn’t expect it could turn out like this now!!! :(

Can’t explain what I was feeling, I felt bad for them. I was supposed to come earlier anyway. I should have checked earlier about the communication thru stupid mobile networks who deliver messages only at times they feel like it but not during times when it’s really needed.

So on my birthday night I was wandering in KL Sentral until my legs got really hurt. Hehe. Not funny. I know KL Sentral is crowded with thousands of people but at least I kind of expected that I would spot them somehow in some restaurant (they say they’re coming for dinner afterall). Or is it too much for an expectation? I didn’t find them! I was sad and tired. Tired and sad. And hungry. Suddenly I had to have someone with me so I wouldnt be too sad and too tired and too hungry. So I called Ado and asked him to come to KL Sentral.

Hmph. And he turned up. We ate, we talked. He laughed at me for having excluded him on my birthday for some other meeting which turned out unsuccessful. Ugh. And he showed me his license he just got today, and his motorbike.

And only after that I checked that my sms to Ana were delivered, except one that I replied to her saying I would come, which was failed to be sent.

I should just throw out the phone.

Happy birthday Ilyani!

4) Be a good companion to everyone

5) Be an excellent career woman. Get higher salary :p

6) Organize my finance budget

9) I’ll add more later..

Okay. Who was the first person to have called to wish me early early this morning? Absolutely Mama :) Thank you for giving birth to me 25 years ago and taking care of me for 25 years now! Oh and thank you to Abah too :D

I got my second birthday card yesterday. From Ado. At Backofen. I hate to admit that I liked it. I didn’t know he could write something so beautiful. Just a thoughtful side of him you have to discover. Anyways. We may be friends but I shouldn’t be too nice to him, or too close to him anymore. In times like this he surely can be the nicest.

“Ja i ilyani zajedno u vjecnosti

Ummm. I am happy in my own way now. Thanks anyway.

Surprise! Surprise!

Some unbelievable, unexpected news and surprises for past few days:

1) Ilyani managed to survive on her own first salary for roughly 2 weeks! Agh, and finally I have come to realize that my money is gone and I still need my parents’ help :~)

2) On Sunday Mama arrived in KL, with intention to accompany my uncles’ parents from hometown flying over to here to visit their son in hospital. Apparently Ipah turned up also, with one intention to accompany Mama, and another intention to check her status of entrance to UIA PJ. We spent some time in Semenyih, and they came to overnight in my place. On Monday I worked until afternoon and asked for unpaid half day leave, and picked Mama & Ipah to UIA PJ, and to buy bus ticket home for them. Later we went to shopping at Midvalley and I sent them to bus terminal. They’ll be coming again next week though, haha, as Ipah is registering to do Dentistry studies in UIA PJ on coming Sunday. Haih.

3) Because I am broke, Mama got to belanja me a full tank of fuel, and let me tell you, it’s RM80 now for Kelisa! Sigh, and last night the CEO of Petronas was on air in 4 TV stations but only giving excuses that they cannot do anything with the fuel price hike.

4) Kelisa’s roof top got leaked for 2 times now, and each was during heavy rain! Can you believe it? I don’t know what’s going wrong, BUT this is a CAR made after year 2000 and not some village cottage with roof made of cononut leaves! Why still got leaked? I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw flood inside my car, but after some googling I have come to know that things like this isn’t too impossible when it comes to Malaysian car! See this and this. Ugh, and they say Perodua is no 2 Malaysian top brands ranking. There’s some helpful forums they were talking about this, and I guess I have to check the rubber seal on front top. Or actually, I have to go to some workshop to get someone check for me.

5) I cleaned the fridge! Hahaha, I can’t believe myself that I really did this. But when Mama visited she was eager to do something with the fridge that I guess had never been cleaned since purchase and got frost as huge as Antarctic iceberg. None of my housemates who have been staying in this apartment for years bothered to clean the fridge, then why should I?? Hmph, but since Mama already volunteered and helped cleaning a bit, I just had no choice but to finish cleaning it until all the frost is gone and throwing out those trapped foods that have been in the fridge since YEARS! Let me tell you, there’s even some got expiry date of 2006!!!

6) I got my first birthday card from Indirama! Aww, this is too good to believe, given that I haven’t ben active on the forum so I don’t expect any card from Postcrossers this year. But hey, last year I got 30+ birthday cards and gifts from all over the world! Again I didn’t expect anyone from the forum to use my new apartment address. Too bad my camera is broken otherwise I have to show the lovely card here, and she also included a Moomin+Little My mobile phone strap, so cute! But my cheap Nokia got no hole for any strap leh, umm maybe this is a sign that I have to buy new mobile phone soon!

7) Though it’s on my birthday and I am actually too embarassed to meet Ana because she knows my stupid life stories through this blog, I’ll meet my Paulo & Ana in KL Sentral on Friday night! They’ll be heading back to Shanghai a few hours after coming back from Redang Island, so we’ll have some time to have a dinner and talk. At least that’s what Ana and I have discussed for past few days. I hope everything will be OK. And I hope they’re having a great time now in Redang island!

8) It’s confirmed: UIA convocation day for Engineering graduates will be on Monday, 25th August 2008! CANT! WAIT! FOR! IT!!!

Unwell

For 3 days now I’ve been suffering from a disease of “tissue dependancy and going to the washroom every 10 minutes to clean nose” a.k.a. flu. I’ve wanted to go to clinic since the first day but always thought that I was a quick-healer and it would be over soon so I didn’t really need medication. However, it’s been 3 days now and snorting and blowing nose inside office is rather embarassing. I am too lazy to make it to toilet every 5 minutes. Every 10 minutes is still okay.

Nothing much to write today. Sometimes I think I have many work to do here, and sometimes I’m just lazying around. Can’t wait for the weekend.

This evening after work I’m going to my aunty’s house in Semenyih. To wash clothes and to accompany her overnight as my uncle is in hospital for dengue fever.

Going wireless broadband

At home we have Streamyx wired broadband which is always the best and most stable internet service. But in my new apartment there’s no ready phone line so I have to go for wireless broadband.

After considering some available broadband services in Malaysia like Celcom, Maxis, iZZi and DiGi, I decided to go for Celcom. At first I was thinking of Maxis, as they’re giving a HSDPA USB modem for monthly rental and without contract, as I don’t own a 3G handphone as modem substitute. While in Celcom package, you ned to buy their modem at RM499, but some ads say they’re giving free modem too, but it’s subject to 18 month contract. Contract is a no-no because these providers are always introducing new cheaper-than-before plans which means people are sooner paying cheaper but you still have to pay the same price until the contract ends. Though Maxis sounds more convenient, some say their connection isn’t always stable compared to Celcom which is said to have the best coverage. Plus again I don’t fancy Maxis, or rather, I was so disgusted with the fact that they have Hotlink Indonesia prepaid pack. I mean, you are giving special five star service to these millions of illegal Indonesian immigrants here?? These people are only thinking of profit and getting as many customers as they can regardless of who they are. No wonder they don’t want to go back to their country! I am Celcom prepaid user and though sometimes Celcom TV/Radio commercials can be a little nonsense and embarassing, it still is fine. I somehow love DiGi’s idea which is rather integrated and unselfish, as I have seen some of their plans having equal rates to other service provider as well. I have been waiting for all the service providers to unite and give equal rates to each other, in whichever part of Malaysia. I mean, ain’t it ridiculous if they’re offering cheap rates for IDD calls to Indonesia and Bangladesh (immigrants benefit, yay) BUT still can’t do something with the higher rates when it comes to different parts of our own country? Unless they’re also using Celcom and having my number in their 8pax list, people in KL are complaining when making calls to me as I’m still using East Coast number which costs them a bomb!

Back to my broadband plan. Some people from Lowyat forum are selling Huawei HSDPA USB modem which sounds neat, as it can be used with any service providers you like. Plus they are getting cheaper these days, I found some selling E220 for RM400. Though it’s a bit trivial when person A sells an original modem at RM400, and person B sells an original at RM630 and AP at RM400 and person C sells an original at RM500 (and claiming it’s cheaper than market price). I didn’t even know that modems also got AP products. Haiyoh..

But anyhow I have to wait until my next salary. Until then I can do the modem hunting

Ummmmmmmm… (cont’d)

Why must there be unpredictably un-nice people in this world?

Sigh, I am so tired. I am trying to be nice to people but what do I get in return? :( There’s someone who used to claim that we’re friends, and yeah we are, or at least we were, during our busiest participation in Postcrossing forum. I have only been in contact as friends, I mean more than as fellow Postcrossers, with Newrule, Aliah and him. I always thought he’s a neat buddy and sent me great postcards that made me smile and he somehow used to knock me some sense when when I was having hard times with Ado, whether he himself realizing it or not. He used to wish me luck for my jobhunting and even said something so motivating when I just got a job! But he suddenly disappeared and now never replies my sms!

He didn’t reply me since about 1.5 months ago, but I thought he was busy. But yesterday I again sent a neat invitation if he’s interested to meet my celebrity and have dinner with them as well. I mean, though it’s still undecided if I can make it to meet them, I’ve somehow started planning this and that. Hehe. Though I can go by my own, I thought it’d be fun if I bring someone with me. More fun if it’s a Postcrosser. And the only Postcrosser (or at least used to Postcross before) I thought available and lives in KL was him. So there, but I’m being ignored! What happened?

I asked Newrule if she’s still in contact with this person. I recalled that he stopped responding my messages after I didn’t answer his call. And apparently, Newrule says it happened to her, too, and she’s also been ignored. Ohmy, how so easily offended this guy is!

Mukhsin

Hmph. I am now so demotivated to think about meeting my celebrity. Plus, at a second thought, I think it’s inapproppriate to ask them to make a long trip to KL only to go back to the airport a few hours later.

Anyways. Everyone, say goodbye to Mukhsin. I’m sending him back to Aliah today. Bye bye, I’m gonna miss you! :~)
